sunset

sunset in the land of 100 parrots... so as you may know we just moved to Ocean Beach, California. Great place to live thus far. I have seen parrots flying over me and a sunset that has been one of the most vibrant skies I have ever witnessed...

ok i prematurely started this post and am falling asleep... i will finish in the morning! Alrighty, so maybe it's not morning, but afternoon! Here I am to finish my blog, I know you have all been waiting patiently :)

I have been enjoying our new patio, sitting outside, basking in the sun and I love it. Yesterday as I was taking my five minute break, i sat down and to my wonderful surprise I saw a bright green parrot fly over my head, i could not believe it! I suddenly felt like I was in Costa Rica and I loved that! I really just thought that a parrot had gotten out of its cage so I felt pleased enough to see it once, shared my news with all and continued on with my day. The next day I went back outside for my sun break and saw three parrots! Now, I was like what is going on here, how are there parrots in San Diego? my husband than said he also saw three parrots in the morning making a noise like no other.

All of this parrot craziness forced me to pull out my trusty interweb and figure out if we had all gone crazy or if there really are parrots in Ocean Beach...

to my greatest surprise, there are parrots in OB, actually about 100 parrots, they apparently came about 25 years ago when a pet store burnt down, they are parrots from the Central and South America region and are gorgeous!

so there you go a sweet story about 100 parrots in ocean beach and a sunset like no other... welcome home I say!

Great sunset photo! I used to live at Ocean Beach as a child--loved being so close to the beach and collected lots of intact sand dollars, too.

I am in Austin, TX and randomly saw a huge flock of green parrots one day! It was incredible and definitely made me feel like I wasn't in the US. I've only lived here since last July and there are so many surprises! Seeing green parrots is pretty surreal!

It looks so nice and warm there..
Beautiful picture..The closest to a parrot here is a woodpecker..yep, that is it.

I think you have a sofa bed with my name on it! I actually just discovered a parrot community in Brooklyn of all places. I'll have to get some shots the next time I go past the street that they feed them and we can compare species :)

I was born and raised in San Diego, and lived in OB after college. I miss Newport Avenue and the Farmers Market. Thanks for sharing your parrot story, I always thought that was so neat. As well as the "OB Pause" when the sound of planes fly overhead.

Welcome to San Diego. We used to live in Ocean Beach too and loved living so close to the water. Gotta love those parrots!
